Definition:
The fine art term edition refers to one of a series of artists' works such as photographs, prints, DVDs, sculptures that are made from a master. In printmaking, for example, prints are numbered consecutively, so that A/P means Artist's Proof and that 5/25 is the 5th print made out of 25 prints.
With printed matter such as photographs and printmaking, the single image is reproduced from the negative, stone or plate. With limited editions of sculptures and media-based works like DVDs, the artist may make a set of 5 identical works.
