Established:

Lord of Tuscany Cosimo I dei Medici (1519-1574) commissioned painter and architect Giorgio Vasari to build the Uffizi which was to be home to the State's government offices. Construction began in 1560 and ended in 1581. Publicly it officially opened as a museum in 1765.

The Uffizi Gallery is located in Florence, Italy.

The Uffizi Gallery is world renowned for its famed Medici collection of Renaissance paintings and sculptures.

Famous artworks in the collection include paintings by the Italian Renaissance Masters: Giotto, Piero della Francesca, Fra Angelico, Botticelli, Mantegna, da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo and Caravaggio.
